Change in 2009

I am expecting a ton of changes for 2009. With the help of a loving Heavenly Father we are hopefully going to be shaking things up a bit.

First we hope for Johnny to get in the with Lineman union. He is #2 on the NM waiting list and he interviews at two locations in Texas in January.

Second, if Johnny does get in the lineman union we will most likely be kickin' it in a travel trailer.

Third I will be working from home! YEAH! My employer told me that I was an asset to their company and even though I have only been with them for 6 months they didn't want me to have to resign when we move. The director and my manager have made arrangements for me to work from home. I will be provided a laptop and I will set my own hours Monday-Friday at home with my kids. I already have a tentative schedule in mind. It really feels that I have been working toward this type of position for a long time. When I started my MAED program working from home was my goal. We are so blessed!

Fourth, (and most important) we are going to have Hulse Baby #3 the end of August 2009. Yikes! I am still in shock. I was so hungry for a baby and now I am scared to death! My friend Janelle made me take a test two days before Christmas (I was putting it off). For Christmas Johnny got one gift he really didn't expect! I am so excited to be pregnant with a handful of wonderful friends. 4 of us are all due within 2 weeks of each other. I really want a girl but I would be happy with a boy too! I love my boys and Daniel is excited I have a baby in my tummy!

We have been so blessed. I feel like the Lord knows what we want and need and he is guiding our lives. I know that He loves me and my family. I love my boys! Johnny, Daniel & Jaxon are such a joy to me. I love my life.

BABY HUNGRY!

About 10 days ago my friend mentioned to me that she was going to have her IUD taken out because they were ready to have another baby. It made me start thinking...and now I can't stop thinking! I wish I could shut off my maternal cravings for just a few more months! You see, my friend and I have been prego together both times. We each have two kids almost exactly the same age. I feel like it is some kind of strange bond or connection between us. It is strange but I feel even closer to her when we are pregnant at the same time. We talk about names, clothes, babies, swelling, etc. All the fun stuff. Monday morning I found out she (and another friend of mine) are pregnant! I am such a TERRIBLE friend. Do you know what I said to her? Instead of congratulations I said "how could you?"! I was being sarcastic of course, but I know I am terrible. I am so sorry (you know who you are)! I am SO EXCITED FOR YOU!

I am excited for my friend, but now I want to be prego again too. But, then I walk into a store with Daniel and I cringe! I don't think I could survive another Daniel! If you have met Daniel you know what I mean. He is a wonderful, happy, energetic boy. He just has a little problem with authority and he NEVER stops talking. Jaxon on the other hand is quiet, doesn't say too much and loves to look at books. He will sit on my lap and let me hold him. But, he is starting to act more and more like Daniel. It has to be the age. Someone PLEASE tell me it is just the age. Daniel just turned 3. 18 months to 3 years was a really rough time with him...and it isn't over yet.

Am I ready for another baby yet? I think if it was a girl I would say absolutely! A boy? I am scared out of my mind to have another boy. They would outnumber us. A few weeks ago I bought Daniel one of the Monkey backpacks with a leash, I would need a few more leashes if I had another boy! I would need my own time out room! How did my grandmother survive? She had 3 boys! How did my mother-in-law survive? She had 6 boys. If any of you know Johnny I am positive Daniel is Johnny's mothers revenge on him! Now I am paying the price (don't get me wrong Johnny is totally worth it, but still). Another fear I have is that the next one will have the same condition Jaxon has. If the next one is a boy they have a 60% chance of having EE. If it is a girl it is only a 30% chance.

The other problem is we tried for 2 years before we found out we were pregnant with Daniel. Jaxon was a surprise, but what if we have to go through fertility again? Do I really want to delay getting that going?

The other night I went to bed asking Johnny about baby names...what is wrong with me? Someone tell me how to turn off my hormones.

Potty Break!

Going to the bathroom at work has become quite the experience. Here are the supplies.
Yep, that is a life alert button (think Help I've fallen and can't get up!), a key and a giant mag light! We were told not to push the button unless it is really an emergency because it is a $75 false alarm charge from the Po Po. We are told to go in pairs. It is a hike around the building to the potty under the back stair case. Our office has a community potty. The problem recently is that the outside lights at our building have been off for a week, so even with the mag light it is BLACK! and SCARY! I just hold it! Or, my manager escorts me. Sad I know.

Where do I work you ask? What is my schedule and hours? Right! Like I would tell you if you don't already know. Sorry, but if I am making my potty trek in these conditions that information is classified.

This is a video I made the other night (I was a little bored I admit) but trust me my mag light was on and it was still BLACK! Last week we had a bum passed out on the grass by the men's room and we were told to ask for an escort to the bathroom. Yikes!

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with our family. 13 people in all. I loved the excuse to bring out all my China and polish my silver pitchers and trays. We toasted to family and health and enjoyed playing games. Johnny loved having a chance to play football with his brother in the rain. It was just a great day.

I even dressed Jaxon in his brown velvet coveralls (from my Granny). People at church the week before told me he looked like a Pilgrim! Yes he is holding an old glow stick left over from Halloween. :o) I will enjoy busting this picture out when he starts bringing girls home...

Daniel's Party

For those of you looking for party pictures here they are...

The Spiderman cake.

The Spiderman web slinging.

Eating the cake with friends.

Thank you to everyone who came. It was so much fun and Daniel LOVED having all of his friends over to his house for a party.

Twilight

So I went to see Twilight yesterday. It was just...good. Is that the right word? Maybe not. But, let's face it, it really was no where near the level of the book. I know, I know that is what people always say about a movie after they have read the book. Basically, I didn't feel the connection between Bella and Edward as I did in the book. And I think there was only one or two times in the whole movie that Edward smiled or seemed really happy. He was a little too mopey. As for the actors, almost everyone besides the main characters was sub par. Edward did have an amazing chest and Jacob is a cutie. It was just a little too dark and not as much of a heart thumping love story as I expected. It makes me want to read the book again. It makes me want to read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon again! But, that is just me. What did you think?

Where are you on Thanksgiving?

Where do you go for thanksgiving? stay home? in-laws? travel?

It depends. We live near Johnny’s family so for holidays we usually go to So. Cal. to be with my family. This year since both of my sisters will be in Nepal (Diana lives there; Jeanine & Kevin are going to visit her) my parents are coming to our house. We are also having a some close friends over as well. That evening we will go see Johnny’s family at his mom’s house for a little while because we will be in town. My dad, I am sure, will be asleep in our recliner “watching” a football game and won’t even notice we have stepped out.

If you bring something what do you bring?

My mom makes a killer pumpkin pie. I LOVE pumpkin pie and she taught me to make it like she does. I bring the pie and usually the green bean casserole. This year since it is at my home I bought the entire meal (two of them actually, one Turkey and one Ham) from Fry’s. My oldest Daniel was born on Thanksgiving, 10 days late. That is the year I started buying the meal. I had every member of my family at my house for Thanksgiving and I was in the hospital. What else was I supposed to do? Buying it makes the day so much more relaxed. I will not do this every year, but for now I am game. We supplement with homemade items that are really amazing…that way I don’t have to cook a Turkey or a Ham!

What "makes" thanksgiving dinner for you?

Spending time with family is the best part, but I love and eating on China. My grandmother is an antique dealer. She has always had amazing China. I think her napkin rings are each worth a few thousand each. My grandmother and mother started my set when Johnny and I were married. We bring it all out for any holiday. No paper products for us, we even use linen napkins and wear our Sunday best. A holiday is special so we try to set the mood. This is my China http://www.amazon.com/Noritake-Crestwood-Platinum-20-Piece-Dinnerware/dp/B0002PC7TA I LOVE IT! It makes me want to go awwww whenever I see the table set. Breathtaking.

What grosses you out?

The little hairs sticking out of the Turkey skin gross me out! I never eat the skin. SICK!

Gravy preference? Brown? Turkey? Homemade?

Whatever is available. I never make gravy so when someone else does it is great. I just don’t like it clumpy or too salty. Mashed Potatoes? from scratch? or instant?Scratch. Preferably red mashed potatoes with the skin.

Do you actually eat Yams?

NO! YUCK! No matter how much brown sugar or marshmallows they are not edible to me. But, Johnny loves them so I always make some just for him. It is a little ironic that I loath them yet they are the main source of Jaxon’s diet. I make a batch for him a few days a week.

What about cranberries?

In my mom’s amazing candied pear dish, yes. Other than that I only like them dried. They are too sour.

Pie? What is a "must have" at every Thanksgiving dessert table?

Pumpkin & Pecan. Johnny would swear it is not Thanksgiving unless he has a slice of him mom’s cream cheese pie. He suckers her into making him his own by playing the “it’s my birthday” card.

Pies? From scratch? Or store bought?

Filling from scratch, crust from the store. I can’t make a pie crust from scratch to save my life!

Whipped cream? From scratch ? Cool whip? Or from a can?

Light Cool whip.

I would love to hear what you love about Thanksgiving, please share!

Obedient kids...for once!

Last week my boys and I were playing in the front yard. Mostly I was cleaning out the car, but they were riding bikes with the neighbors until the other kids went into the street. The neighbor boys are 9 and almost 7 so they are a lot older then my kids. Daniel actually listened when I told him to remember not to go into the street. He and Jaxon were so great! Daniel sat down on the curb to watch the other boys and Jaxon followed. It was even more perfect because they were wearing matching shirts...so cute. I was so proud of them for listening. They sat on the curb never going into the street looking longingly at the older kids.

Once again...ignore the 4 sizes too big Transformer shoes. They are the bane of my existence. Daniel loves them but he trips where ever we go. They are like clown shoes. He always asks for them.

Finger Painting

Daniel was born on Thanksgiving so we have always tried to have his party the week before to keep his birthday and the holiday separate. This year he wanted a Spiderman party. Going against my better judgement we are having the party at home rather than at the park. A party at home is so much more work! You have to plan games and entertainment rather than just the food. You also have to clean the house. Ugh!

I saved a few desk boxes from work for the party. Since the party is Spiderman I want to have the kids protect us (not fight) from the villains. I traced Daniel on the cardboard and made a really sad version of Doc Oc and the Green Goblin. Then we finger painted. At the party the kids will spray the villains with Spiderman's web (silly string).

Please ignore Jaxon's diaper in the front yard as well as Daniel's 4 sizes too big Transformer shoes, and focus on the huge smile on Daniel's face. He was so happy. Jaxon was having a blast too. He liked it so much he sat in the red paint!

After we painted we went inside to cut their shaggy hair and clean up. Promptly after a good cleaning and new clothes Daniel decided to take the baby powder container and decorate the freshly cleaned house. He made sure every picture had a squirt of baby powder on each person's eye and that the TV was properly covered with baby powder as well. And just for fun Jaxon needed a few squirts of baby powder as well. Let me tell you I was so happy to come out and find my freshly vacuumed green carpet covered in baby powder. At least the house now smells nice.

Please ignore the snot...it is never ending!

Our Perfect Days...

This past week was just amazing. Johnny doesn't have work on Tuesdays so Sunday and Tuesday are my favorite days of the week. Tuesday this week we worked out at the gym, went to the Family Fun van at the park. Ate lunch at the park and played on the toys. Then both boys took excellent naps AT THE SAME TIME which means I took a nap too, with Johnny by my side. He is like a furnace and kept me all warm and snugly. I love Johnny keeping me all warm and snugly! It was perfect. My boys, all three of them were wonderful on Tuesday. That night we had dinner and games with some friends. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

On Wednesday we went to the zoo. Again, the boys were wonderful. Daniel didn't run off and he didn't have any potty accidents while we were there. Did you know they have the most WONDERFUL family bathroom behind the carousel at the Phoenix zoo? If you are ever there you HAVE TO check it out! We saw lots of animals. They all seemed to want to put on a show, the elephant and giraffe even walked right over to where we were. We saw the stingrays, fed the ducks, watched the baby orangutan put a sheet over his grandma's head and sucker punch her, fed crackers to a stray peacock, and saw two 100 year old tortoise mate. Yep MATE! About two feet from my babies they started making some of their own. Daniel kept saying "Hes hurting it" whenever the tortoise would grunt. Have you ever heard a tortoise grunt? Not something you easily forget let me tell ya! Jaxon had a blast with the animals on the farm. The goats in the petting zoo were just his size. He ran from goat to goat squealing with glee. The only two scares I had in the petting zoo were when Daniel goosed a large goat under his tail with a petting zoo brush and when Jaxon slid in a muddy goat pee filled bog. It was lovely. I smelled of goats the remainder of the day and so did he. My amazing sister-in-law Sabrina is always a wonderful zoo companion and we were able to eat our sack lunches together in the shade while the kids climbed all over the tractors. Perfect. That is the only work for it. (Sorry no pictures...my camera batteries were not cooperating). When we got home my boys once again took glorious naps AT THE SAME TIME which means I got a nap too! Yeah me!

One Thursday we love the free Carousel rides at the mall. Daniel picks a different animal every time and it is never the one I expect it to be. Since the weather was absolutely perfect we packed our lunch for the 3rd day in a row and ate next to the fountain at the mall. I met a very nice elderly man who I see frequently with his grand daughter. They attend all the same free kids events we seem to attend. He and his grand daughter are so cute. Daniel and Jaxon love to stick their feet in the fountain there at the mall. I hurry and rush them up to the fountain and we make as many footprints as we can before the security guard can kindly remind us that sticking our feet in the fountain is not allowed. Am I teaching my sons to undermine authority at this young age?

Once again. Perfection. This week really was heavenly the majority of the time. Despite the missing glue stick Daniel seems to have absconded and the pink chalk covering my garage door I think my boys and I have found a nice rhythm.

This past week I was able to enjoy some truly joyful moments with my children. I realized that this (right here and now) is what being a mother is all about.

Election Day 2008

This scripture has been on my mind all night.

Mosiah 29:27

And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hiterto visited this land.

SUPERHEROES

Our two boys were Superheroes for Halloween this past weekend. Daniel was Batman and Jaxon of course was Superman. Daniel asked to wear his costume so much the past few weeks Halloween was a little anticlimactic, he didn't even want to wear his mask or cape. The cape because the dog would chase it and tackle him to the floor, and the mask because it made his face sweat. We specifically selected the Superman costume for Jaxon because it had no coverings for his face and it made his eyes look even more blue than usual. Over the past few weeks I have been "flying" them through the house and teaching them about how real superheroes don't fight but protect the people around them.

My parents came to visit from southern CA for Halloween weekend and my mom's birthday. My dad of course was the supplier of everything Daniel could possibly want. When he refused to eat breakfast my dad took him for doughnuts. When he wanted to have juice my dad loaded him up. My father takes his role of Pauna (grandpa) very seriously. My mom (Mumzie) on the other hand is the epitome of patience. She never flinched when both my boys stuck their heads in the shower with her. She would read to them and both my parents took the boys to the park and on walks. I love it when they visit. They really do spoil us.

This year it was fun that Daniel actually understood how to get candy. He took his trick-or-treating very seriously. He would say "that house next" then run off to the next door. He said his trick-or-treat clearly and always said "thank you". It was so cute. Jaxon followed faithfully behind his older brother. He would go to the door and point at the decorations. We didn't have a bag for him to collect candy because Johnny would have eaten it all since Jaxon could not. He never stayed at one door long enough to get te candy anyway. The one sucker we did let him hold he ripped through the paper and went to town on the tootsie pop. Once we realized what he was doing we of course took it away to keep him from getting sick. He screamed as if his life were over. It was so sad. That was probably the greatest thing he has ever tasted!

Daniel was so excited he totally peed his pants half way through the neighborhood. After that he wanted to ride in the stroller and we carried Jaxon. Daniel said he didn't want a rash on his booty. It was a little frustrating but totally cute. We made our way home and had a great night together as a family.

New Mexico Update

We know we are loved because so many people ask us when we are leaving...wait, that didn't sound right! We know we are loved because so many people are concerned for our future.

Johnny spoke with the lineman union this week and found out that he has moved from the #3 spot to the #2 spot on the waiting list. What does that mean? Same as before! We could get the call any time in the next week or month or year. When the time comes we will only have one week (or less) notice. They will call when the work picks up, which is expected in the near future.

Pray! That is what we are doing. We are praying that we will get the call soon because all this waiting and not knowing is killing my sanity. I don't like being in limbo. A few good things have come from waiting. We have decided that we are going to try living in a trailer (yes that is what I said, a travel trailer) so that the boys and I can be with Johnny no matter where he moves. Otherwise we would only see him once a week or maybe once a month depending on the job. It would be like choosing to be a single mother. Our kids are not in school yet, so if we move with him we will have each other and save a ton of cash (a ton of cash would be a good thing). I think it will force us to be a super close family too. Close in a lot of ways: physically close with the limited space in a travel trailer (we will step on each other's toes, but there would be less to clean), but also emotionally and spiritually close because all we would have is our faith in Jesus Christ, His plan for us, and each other. I might go crazy but I just might absolutely love it. I think I am willing to take the risk. Now we just need the call, a signed contract...and a travel trailer. I am thinking 25-30 feet with a slide out and maybe bunk beds in the back. Of course it would have to be under 6K pounds loaded so we can pull it with the Expedition. Wishful thinking...

Look Alike

I have always loved the idea of having twins. My boys are only 18 months apart and I try to dress them alike as much as possible. I know it is silly, but I get this big thrill when they wear matching outfits.
Here are photos of my most recent finds. Children's Place was having a 50% off the clearance price sale. Plus I had a 15% off coupon on top of that. I only paid about $2 each. I bought them 4 matching winter shirts each plus these totally cute vests. I can NOT wait until the weather is a little colder so I can bust out their new little matching outfits.

I was so excited last Sunday when they got dressed. They even had matching Saddle shoes. They were a used pair from when Daniel was younger and the matching pair a friend bought for us off the clearance rack (once again from Children's Place). I am telling you they have some great deals a few times a year. Never buy full price, wait for the seasonal sales!

Puppy Love

Two days ago I was outside with my boys playing in the back yard and I looked around to find where Jaxon had run off to. Of course he was over at the water faucet because he loves to play in water more than anything. Except this time he was not just playing with the water. We have a water spicket for our dog. Since we live in Arizona I have always been worried that she would run out of water on a hot day. The water to the spicket is always on. When she bumps it with her nose the water comes out. Jaxon has figured out the dog water spicket.

I looked over to see him bump it once, laugh, bump it twice, laugh, bump it again them promptly open his mouth as wide as he could and put it completely over the spicket. It was hilarious. I should have stopped him but instead I ran for my camera.

The water spicket incident made me realize that my baby and my golder retrieve have the same diet. Jaxon eats mostly sweet potatoes and grapes. The dog cleans out his chair promptly after every meal. In turn, if Jaxon is out of my sight for more than two seconds I make a run for the dog bowl. I will inevitably find him crouched over the bowl shoving handfuls of puppy chow in his mouth. He looks up, sees me then makes a run for it. I of course either catch him right away and pry the puppy chow out of his locked jaw, OR laugh hysterically, then pry it out of his mouth.

Jaxon can't have people food much less puppy chow (due to EE), but he thinks it is his own little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. He has reactions to the puppy chow the same as regular food. It makes it hard to food trial when the puppy chow is giving us false results.

***Let me also take a moment to explain Daniels MC Hammer clothes. He is almost 3 and likes to decide what he wears. When we are home, no big deal. Leaving the house we might have a brawl over the 6-9 month fish shirt and the 4T lizard PJ pants. ****

I BELIEVE!

Recently I have been thinking a lot about what I believe. Not just what I believe, what I know. I have been thinking about my life and if I am as happy as I can be. The answer...I could be happier. I say that because everyone can always be happier, no one is perfect. The closer I get to my Savior Jesus Christ the happier I become.

I BELIEVE...

1. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. He suffered and died for my sins and only through Him can I return to live, yes live, with my Heavenly Father again.

2. Eternal marriage is essential in this life and in the life to come. I married an amazing man. I love him and I know he loves me. Together we can accomplish great things. I am excited to live my life with him and spend the rest of eternity by his side.

3. I matter. I have a purpose in this life. I have a job to do. I think being a mother is a big part of that job. Can I be a better mother? Yes. I am trying each and every day to be a better mother and teach my children about their Savior Jesus Christ. I learn something new every day and it is usually due to a mistake I have made as a parent. Sometimes I am learning much more from my sons than they are learning from me.

4. Church is important. This is the Church of Jesus Christ. The only true church on the earth. Attending church has been very difficult oh' since about Nov. 2005 when Daniel was born. Yep, all of a sudden I could not concentrate on feeling the spirit, listening to the talks, or pondering. Sometimes I have found myself attending church only because I feel like I need to. Do I always leave inspired? No. I really do believe that the act of following the commandments even when we don't understand why or when we just plain don't want to is proof of our faith, our dedication, our testimony. We will be blessed for it. It is NOT blind faith, it is real faith. I take the sacrament each week. It matters. I don't feel the same when I miss it. My entire week is somehow "off". I go to church because that is where I am supposed to be, not because I expect to have a blast. I go to grow closer to God, not to socialize. I go because I know that is where God wants me to be.

5. Joseph Smith was and is a Prophet of God. Sometimes I selectively forget how important this is. Why does it matter? It matters because he was a mortal chosen by God to restore His gospel to this earth. He actually saw God the Father and the Son Jesus Christ. I know he saw them. Some may think I am crazy, but it makes sense to me that a loving creator would have contact with His creation. As a parent how could I not have contact with my children? We are sons and daughters of God. He loves us. He loves me. He prepared a way for me to come back to him. Joseph Smith was an essential part of that plan.

There is a lot more, but I am feeling a little long winded. This post is for me...I just needed to write it down.

I've been tagged!

Let me first say that I think these are corny and I don't expect any one else to feel the need to do this too.

1. When I was in elementary school (I think about 4th grade) my older sister almost cut the top off the middle finger of my left hand with a steak knife. I was setting the table and she felt the need to grab the knife from my hand. One night at the ER and 4 stitches later I was good as new.
2. I used to wear red spandex bicycle shorts and a red and white striped shirt to school in 5th grade. It was my favorite outfit. I was so cool. The shorts had strange seams. People used to ask me if they were inside out.

3. My husband claims I burp like Homer Simpson. (Did I really just admit to that? Yikes). In actuality I think my little burps are NOTHING compared to some of the young women I work with at church, they can be a little scary. Really!

4. I rode equestrian horses from about 3rd grade to middle school. I LOVED riding Dancer. He was my favorite horse. Dancer was a huge black thoroughbred with a numb mouth (meaning if you pulled back to stop he couldn't feel it). I used to participate in shows, parades, etc. I loved the feeling of flying over the jumps. My parents leased me a horse named Deuteronomy (Dude) for a few months. I would work at the stable to pay off some of the boarding fees. One day on a trail ride my friend and I let go of the reins and lay back on the horse to look at the sky. My head was resting comfortably on Dancer's rump when he decided to race the horse next to him. Within minutes he had run me up the side of a mountain. The only reason he stopped is because of a barbwire fence. I learner not to day dream while riding horses. When I was still in elem. school my trainer thought I was overweight, which I was. She used to make me run around the ring through the thick sand leading some of the horses. The horses would follow me in circles. This was only done when a new trainee was on the horse, but it really embarrassed me and I eventually stopped riding. I was not great, but it was something I loved and my parents are amazing so they funded my hobby.

5. I hate putting my clothes away. I wash the clothes Johnny folds them and puts them away. I pile my discarded clothes on the shelf by my bed until Johnny makes comments about my pile. I put the kids clothes away and have no problem with putting anything else away. Johnny on the other hand puts all clothes away even if they are dirty. I have to pull them out of the closet to wash them, so I guess we balance each other out.

6. Johnny and I went to China for 10 days March 2005. China was amazing. There were people on bikes everywhere and cars have the right of way. Watch out! The first day we were there we had some kind of pumpkin dumplings (with chicken feet, which I didn't eat). The pumpkin dumplings were amazing and every meal we would ask for them again but they had no clue what we were talking about. I loved the Terra Cotta Warriors and the Forbidden City. The flights were crazy long and I could not figure out why my feet were swelling so much worse than every one else. I found out the day after we arrived back in LA that I was pregnant with our first baby boy, Daniel.

7. My labor with Jaxon was crazy fast. I only had strong contractions for a little over half an hour. He was born 7 minutes after I signed in at the front desk of the hospital. The doctor didn't arrive for almost half an hour later. Luckily my nurse was wonderful and caught Jaxon. I was not even all the way on the bed when he was born and the room was not set-up. The warmer was not even in the room. Within 2 hours I was in the shower shaving my legs. It was wonderful! Jaxon has always been a bit of a surprise, but that is just the way we like him. He is such a joy in our lives.

Albquerque Update

So we were all ready for Johnny to head off to Albuquerque and start working when they called and said that the company the union contract with fell through. There are other large jobs coming though and the union rep said we should expect about two week before they call with the next job. Johnny is 3rd on the list, so we know we are going we just don't know when. I guess that gives us a little more time to prepare, but I liked having a firm date. Not knowing details just kills me.

To forget my frustration I took my boys to the play area at the mall and rode the carousel. It was so much fun. Jaxon and Daniel just squeal with delight when I chase them around. Daniel informed me that he was getting out his juice running in circles. I was all for him burning off some of his endless energy. We all were able to take excellent naps this afternoon. I love naps!

I will let everyone know when the next offer comes. In the mean time we are going to start preparing to move to New Mexico. The program is 3 1/2 years then we would probably move back to Mesa. I love Mesa and there is no snow here like there is Albuquerque. I am not a snow girl. Give me heat. I want to be WARM.

Albuquerque here we come!

I feel like I was just hit by a bus. I can NOT even believe this. Oh yeah, I have not told you what "this" is.

We received a message tonight on our answering machine stating that there was an opening in Albuquerque for the lineman apprentice program. They needed to know if we accepted "right away". Johnny called and left a message stating that we accept! YEAH! Wait, here is the kicker...Johnny needs to start on MONDAY the 13th! YES, that is THIS MONDAY! We are moving to Albuquerque ASAP!

So, I guess what we have figured out in the last few minutes since receiving this crazy answer to our prayers is that Johnny is moving to New Mexico this weekend and I will be staying here in AZ to close up shop. We need to rent out our house, pack, talk to our employers, etc. Not even to mention finding a place for our family out there. CRAZY!

My head is spinning. I think I might pass out.

Birthday Parties

For some reason we have a vast number of birthday parties this time of year. A few weeks ago Daniel received his first real birthday party invitation in the mail. It was a Spiderman invitation! He carried it around all week and was so excited to go to the party. This last weekend we went to Kasen Huber's 2nd birthday party.

There was a castle jumper...

... and a (not too scary) clown...

and of course we had to try on the clown wig....

Well not all of us loved the wig...

We all had a great time. Thank you for throwing an awesome party Huber clan! Daniel and Jaxon had so much fun! Happy birthday Kasen.

Funny Things My Kids Do...

Today we had some great family time. We went to Makutu's family play area in Chandler. It is expensive but we had free passes for the boys. Daniel was so excited. He has only been potty trained for under a week, but has never had an accident away from home. At Makutu's he climbed up to the highest slide and refused to have me go down with him. Before I could stop him he dropped out of sight. He went so fast it literally made him pee his pants. I could not stop laughing when I got to the bottom. His eyes were huge and his pants all wet. I considered climbing back to the top and going down the slide again with a wet wipe to attempt a cleaning run, but I figured I had already gone down after him once. Isn't that gross! It was sad but funny. It was almost as funny as when he got mad at me on Sunday. He peed all over Johnny's leg while throwing a tantrum. Hilarious.

After the play area we went to a new pizza buffet off Stapley and the 60. It is called CiCi's Pizza. I am NOT a fan of buffets but Johnny really wanted to go. It was not bad. While we were there Jaxon decided that sweet potatoes are boring! Who would have guessed he would ever get bored after eating them every day, every meal of his life. Poor guy. He started picking up his plate tipping his head back, then dumping either a sweet potato or a grape in his mouth. He would chew just enough to make it really mushy then hack it back out onto the edge of the table. After a few seconds he would suck it back off the edge of the table into his mouth. GROSS, I KNOW! I was laughing so hard and he was having so much fun I didn't stop him. He continued this over and over until we ran out of food, then he started doing it with ice. Once again, hilarious. He was even laughing at himself. The poor woman who cleaned the table after we left! I apologized over and over!

I sit here thinking that I am so tired, but I am so blessed to have two little hyenas to make me laugh all day!

Tradition

Tradition. One word makes me think of Rev Tevia on Fiddler on the Roof. Why do we carry on traditions? I think we do it first because it is what we know. We grew up doing it that way and so we are comfortable continuing on in the same way. Second, because it is something that we love and that brings out special feelings. Thanksgiving for instance is just not the same if we eat off paper plates. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, to me, are to be served on china. I used to look forward to having my own china so I could host holiday dinners at my home. My grandmother is an antique dealer. Her china was breathtaking. The silver goblets, the napkin rings, the silverware...it made the holiday special in my heart. We always dress up in our Sunday best for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I loved going shopping with my mom for Christmas dresses to be worn the first time at Christmas dinner. I have such fond holiday memories. I want to pass on traditions to my children.

Every Christmas I can remember I have used the stocking my beloved Granny made for me. Granny made a stocking for every grandchild. My stocking is something I have treasured my entire life. I loved that it was made by her just for me. I never thought about the time it had taken her until I was older, but I appreciate it now. This is a tradition I want to pass on to my children.

When Daniel was a year I decided I needed to make his Christmas stocking. It was quite an ordeal taking me more than a month to finish. I worked on it every night in front of the TV (which is probably why it took me so long). I was so happy with how it turned out. Of course I made plenty of mistakes, but hey it was my first time and I am far from a perfectionist. I am more of a speed crafter, trying to get it done before I get so bored I give up.

I just finished Jaxon's stocking. My sister threw me a cowboy baby shower before Jaxon was born so I kept in line with that theme. Santa on a horse! I think I did better this time around because I knew what I was doing.
I want my boys to look at their stockings and know that was thinking of them. I know that at one and two years old they are not going to be gushing with gratitude, but some day they will look at them a little closer and think (the same as I did with my own stocking) "Gosh, she must really love me!"

Potty Training

Today was the day! Last week I read the book Toilet Training in Less Than a Day by Nathan H. Azrin, which came highly recommended by a friend. Johnny was off work so he took Jaxon for some one-on-one father/son time (a.k.a run my errands for me please sweetheart) so I could spend the time with Daniel and (drum roll please)...the potty chair! Last night I typed out a cheat sheet, took out my tools (dinosaur underwear, colored marshmallows, skittles, fruit punch, orange soda, and Smarties), and mentally prepared for what I thought could go one of two ways. 1. Daniel was going to be an angle and go right to the potty, never have more than one accident, and totally and completely cooperate with me. At this point I would have fallen to the floor and praised my maker not believing my great fortune. OR 2. He was going to scream so long and loud that I would feel like he could just spend the rest of his life in diapers; see if I care! For some reason I pictured him being about 7 wearing diapers in COSTCO with elderly women giving me the evil eye...

I followed the plan as much as I could (I should have read the book at least 5 times so I wouldn't forget anything) and it pretty much worked. Of course after 4 accidents I was a little discouraged and Daniel was screaming "NO" over and over again in my face, but he got the basics down. He even kept his bed dry during his nap (according to the book pull-ups should not be used after 2 1/2 years old). Overall I was proud of him and only had to resist a strong desire to totally and completely give up one time. When needed I rewarded myself with Skittles for being a good girl. Thanks to the treats everyone is alive. I think Daniel found a new sense of pride in himself. He also now knows that each of our neighbors and all of his friends potty on the toilet to keep their pants dry. I sincerely apologize ahead of time for any comments my 2 year old makes about your potty habits.

On a side note my husband is the most amazing man ever. When he got home from running my errands and cleaning up the orange soda Daniel spilled on the carpet; he swept and mopped the floor for me (due to potty accidents) while the boys took naps. Whenever I stop to think I realize how blessed I am to have him as my eternal companion.

Feet

For some odd reason I have a love/hate relationship with feet. Baby feet are just beautiful. I used to say I wanted my babies to have my foot shape and Johnny's toes. He has amazing toes. My boys inherited beautiful feet. Jaxon's 4th toes are longer than the others, Daniel's are shorter. They both have perfect tiny and round toes with a little bit of a web between the 2nd and 3rd, which my little sister so kindly pointed out as being freaky!

What I hate about feet are the nails. I absolutely can't stand when I can feel my toe nails touch the tops or front of my shoes. Nasty! I cut them short, which means I now cut my kid's nails, both hands and feet almost every week. What is my problem? This can not be normal.

Now you know the deep thoughts running through my mind during Step class.

My Boys...

I have been completely overwhelmed with love for my boys the last few days. Daniel is getting so much better at listening and following directions (as good as a 2 year old boy can be at following directions). Yesterday he said "you're the best mom" and then "you're a sweetheart". Of course this is just repeating what Johnny tells him to say, but he did it without Johnny even being around and without prompting this time. It was just so cute and innocent. Today I went swimming with him while Jaxon was taking a nap. One on one time is so wonderful. I can concentrate on just him. We actually have full conversations. I just love him so much.

Jaxon took his regular 3 hour nap (which is one of my favorite things ever) then was awake while Daniel slept. I had fun chasing him on my hands and knees and listening to him laugh hysterically. He would try to hide behind our rocking chairs. His little head would pop out as he tried to peek out. I would scare him then he would giggle. It was precious. He says "bye bye" and "go" (in addition to the regular mama and dada). He is such a joy in my life. Today Daniel turned into a big ball of goo screaming and crying in the car over wanting to wear PJs all day, sweet Jaxon reached out to him to hold his hand while he cried. He was showing compassion for his older brother. Absolute perfection!

My oldest little boy Johnny is the love of my life. Gosh that guy is a stud. I have not seen him for a few days due to work schedules, but man do I love him. He can be all stinky and sweaty and he still makes my heart pitter patter the way Patrick Swayze used to when I would watch Dirty Dancing. (Note to self: see if Johnny can dance like Patrick Swayze). Oops, did I really say that? The point is he is the reason our babies are so wonderful. He is a great father and husband.

Back to my point...I have just been bombarded with a huge feeling of love and appreciation for my boys this week. I love them more every day.

Exciting News!

No, I am NOT pregnant, yet...not that we are trying. Why do I always feel the need to explain this?

Anyway, back to the exciting news...Johnny's NM interview score! Yeah!

Johnny scored an 89.25 at the New Mexico Lineman Apprentice interview. That is a very competitive score and a vast improvement from two weeks earlier at the Phoenix, AZ interview when he scored a 75. GO JOHNNY, GO GO GO!

What made the difference?
Monopole climbing with a friend: Free
Class A CDL: $350
Electrical Lineman AC/DC class & book: $500
One round trip flight to Albuquerque: $275
Becoming a Journeyman Lineman (including union benefits/pay, steady work, and a career Johnny loves): Priceless

What does the score mean? He will keep interviewing at the other locations (Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.), but Albuquerque is our 2nd choice (behind Phoenix) so if he gets on there we will not be disappointed. We have heard once you have a competitive score a contract offer should come in 2-3 months. The program is only 3-4 years then Journeyman move where they want. Linemen are usually always in high demand.

This year has been rough...gosh that is an understatement, but we feel things are moving in the right direction thanks to the prayers and unending support of our family and friends. We love you guys!

The Hulse Family

I have debated for over a year about starting a blog. I even created a blog and deleted it (twice). There are too many freaks out there if you know what I mean. Anyway, I guess I am finally giving in to peer pressure. You know who you are! I guess what finally did it was preparing to send out a mass email to all my family and friends with another update. Everyone gets upset with me if I don't tell them exciting news FIRST! I just can't figure our how to make each person I love the first one I tell when something exciting (or terrible) happens. So, here we go! First, meet my family.

Johnny - the love of my life. He is really amazing. When I say amazing I mean A*M*A*Z*I*N*G! First of all he is so darn H-O-T. Those dimples! **swoon**. Second, he does house work (without being asked). That includes folding the laundry, cleaning the floors (he has his own mop because he doesn't like mine), loading and unloading the dishwasher, and last week he even dusted the fan in the kitchen. On Labor Day he cleaned the bathrooms. When I am sick he makes me soup or brushes my hair. More importantly he is a wonderful man and an awesome father. Never once has he been too tired to play with our boys when he comes home from work. Never once has he brushed off his responsibilities to be the Priesthood leader in our family. I am learning to appreciate that particular quality more every day. There is so much to say about Johnny, but the greatest compliment I have ever heard anyone say about him is that he is genuine. He loves people and wants to help them, without any underlying benefit to himself. He is just genuine. Other than all the gushy stuff his friends will be sick over he loves basketball, listens to sports radio constantly, and sings in the shower. He dances like a mad man and his nicknames include White Chocolate, Cat Fish, Labudu (or something like that), and a few thousand others. Johnny is the 4th of 8 children, 2 girls, 6 boys. They are each unique and I couldn't have married into a more welcoming family. Besides Johnny's direct family he also came with a few sets of surrogate parents and some extremely close friends. We consider each of them family.

Daniel - 2 1/2 years old - There is just so much to say about Daniel. He is our miracle baby. After 2 years of fertility garbage we were told we could not have children without IVF. What do you know? Hundreds of prayers and no meds - the next month we became prego. He is so smart, talks a ton and is learning to swim without his floaties. He loves swimming, swinging, riding the carousel at the mall and playing chase with mom or dad. He says the funniest things and has a purely mischievous look when he is trying to get away with something (I guess that would be all the time). He keeps me on my toes. He was a climber from the start and has never stopped despite my proclamation that my children would never be allowed to walk on the furniture. He has 100% my temper and 100% Johnny's compassion...plus Johnny's knack for getting into trouble. His mom says Daniel is just like Johnny was. Daniel is obsessed with construction trucks, firefighters, police men, and super heroes. He sleeps with his Batman shoes (or did until I took them away for hitting his brother). The only time he stops moving is when he is asleep...but even then it is constant tossing and stretching. Recently he has been dreaming of dinosaurs and lightning. Daniel changes clothes as often as he can. He would wear PJs all day if I would let him. Just in the past few months he has decided to be Mr. Independent. I can no longer help him get dressed or put his shoes on. He wants to open doors by himself and climb in and out of the car on his own. Daniel is one of a kind and I love him so much. Our family would not be complete without him.

Jaxon 14 mo. - My baby, my baby. This past year with Jaxon just flew by. He was so little for so long, then quite rapidly doubled in size. He is a mini Johnny both in looks and temperament. He has beautiful blond hair, blue eyes and dimples that are going to get him into trouble some day...just like his dad. Jaxon came into this world in a rush, he was our surprise baby. Everything with him is a surprises I guess, the pregnancy (when Daniel was only 9 months old), his birth (7 minutes from sign in to delivery at the hospital), his teeth (from 8 to 16 in a matter of a few weeks), he just doesn't do anything at a steady pace. He even eats like there is no tomorrow. Jaxon is reserved, he really makes you work for a laugh. Oh, but when you get him going it is sweet music. He loves to climb just like Daniel (guess who taught him). Every time I turn around he is climbing onto the kitchen table, trying to open the oven (thank goodness for oven locks), getting into mom's shower, eating dog food, and shutting doors. He loves to play chase and is the greatest sleeper. He will take a solid 3 hour nap every day. What more could a mother ask for? Jaxon was so sick for a long time. He was failure to thrive, only 13 pounds at over 6 months old. After a week in the hospital and no answers he had an endoscopy. The test came back positive for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). Basically he is allergic to the protein in food. All he can eat to date is his medicated formula, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, organic green beans, organic turkey, and purple grapes (yeah for grapes). We food trial one new food every month. If he fails we have to wait until he stops vomiting, having rashes, crying all night long, etc. Then we try again. He has reacted to rice, dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, oats, corn, grape juice, apples, pears, and artificial coloring. This could change as he grows, but for now he eats mostly sweet potatoes. I want to raise Jaxon to live a full life in spite of his condition. I never want him to be defined by EE. It will be a hard road for all of us, but nothing Jaxon or our family can't handle.

ME (Melody) - What is there to say about me? I have recently fallen in love with step aerobics, I love to read (don't give me a book or I will be unresponsive for a few days), I love crafty things but I am impatient so I have a lot of unfinished projects. I love all kinds of music. My favorite color changes daily between blue, green, red, pink, purple, etc. I just can't decide. I hate sweeping and moping, so it is a good thing my husband is so amazing. I love nap time...when both kids are asleep at the same time. Is there anything more perfect than sleeping babies and a peaceful home? I am not sure how many kids I want, I love being pregnant and I have easy pregnancies (except for my numb arm, but I get used to that after a few months), but I get sad every time I think about not being pregnant again. It is just so wonderful to feel a little person moving inside of you. Daniel used to punch me over and over in the same spot at the same time every night, it felt like little flicks. I loved just having him there. Jaxon always did more of the kick and roll routine, just like he does now. I used to play the French Horn. I want to start playing again. I love movies but never have a chance to go to a theatre. I would rather play board games. Before Johnny and I had children we would settle disputes with a game of battleship or divide chores by who won the most recent Rummy game during dinner. "Sorry" was part of our Sunday afternoon routine. I have two of the best parents in the world and two wonderful sisters. All three of us girls are quite different but we are great friends (now that our adolescence is past). I talk about my family all the time, people probably get tired of it, but they are everything to me and people generally talk about what they value. I value my family.
